Visualizing Social Influence

imageA recent post from Flowing Data led me to the website for the Portland agency Instrument. Last summer they completed an application for Google that beautifully visualizes the social influence of content across the Internet over time.

Would love to get my hands on this, but it looks like an internal Google R&D effort.

Palm’s webOS

imageI was catching up on a backlog of podcasts and learned a little more about Palm’s webOS. As it turns out applications for webOS can be written with standards-based web technologies such as XHTML, Javascript, and CSS. This certainly opens the system up for a wide range of developers and will likely give their app base a jump start.

Weeks after CES the good vibes about Palm keep flowing. There is cautious optimism that they are back strong.

Meet Poster Boy

imagePoster Boy is a NYC based street artist. Using only a razor, he remixes elements from the advertisements found in the New York subway system to form beautiful (and illegal) works of art. Check out a short video to see him in action or his photos on Flickr.

Head to the Beach with Hollister

imageLast summer when shopping for some flip flops I found myself wandering into a Hollister store at the mall. I have to say that it was one of the more immersive brand experiences that I’ve had in a while.

With shuttered windows, teal flooring, and cozy lounge chairs, the store both inside and out resembles a Southern California beach shack. The inside was dimly lit, music was cranked and the Hollister signature scent filled the air.

Their e-Commerce website does a great job carrying over the brand image online.

If you get the chance I recommend visiting the store. You’ll likely be feeling your age, but it will be hard to not be impressed.

Wikipedia has some background info on the Hollister story.

School is in Session

image
PublicSchool593 is the latest boutique to open up in Jersey City. They carry very limited edition clothes, sneakers, watches, and toys from brands like SullyWong (pictured above), Nooka, and Royalefam. I stopped by their grand opening tonight and caught a live art performance of Calc2.
